Emerald Ash Borer Treatment

The Town of Paonia has contracted with Climb Tree Service, from Ridgeway, to treat ash trees for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) on town property. The Climb will reduce the price of the treatment based on the number of trees treated. The cost could be approximately $13/caliper inch where the cost will be based on the number of trees treated. Treatment will take place in late June. Please read on for more information.

EAB has been confirmed in Carbondale. The Carbondale find is the most western progression of the insect in Colorado to date and the first EAB detection outside of the Front Range. It was found in some street trees that had been experiencing die back over the last couple of years. The Town Arborist, Carl Meinecke, had been keeping an eye on the ash trees in Carbondale and found exit holes and serpentine galleries when assessing these trees in June. He reached out to the Colorado State Forest Service and our State Entomologist. Dan and his team starting carving away on the ash branches Carl pruned off the tree and quickly found both larvae and adults in the branches. Dan had the insect confirmed as EAB by Chuck Harp at CSU. It is suspected that transportation of infested wood was the culprit of the infestation.

Please review the resources (below). The newest literature shows that if EAB has been identified within 30 miles of your trees/community, then your trees are probably at risk.
